The Drowning of Ophelia
Drowned Ophelia from Brutal Legend. What an awesome character from an awesome game.
I drew this about a month ago, but never colored it. I tried something a little bit different by basically using the airbrush tool for her skin instead of just using flat shades and gradients. Slowly, but surely, i'm trying to import new things into my art, to get out of my "comfort zone" hopefully. Who knows...maybe there might even be backgrounds in my drawings in the near future? lol
(Actually, this drawing did have a background planned, but i admit it. I got lazy AND my hand started giving me issues a little bit. One thing I have a BIG problem with is finishing a drawing all in one sitting. I know that I probably shouldn't, but i just get all wrapped up in it and excited to be producing a new piece, especially since they have been few and far between lately)

Decapitaaaaaaaaaaaatiooooooon!
Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend! How awesome is this game! I haven't had this much fun with a game in a looooooooong time. Great characters, great storytelling, an incredible soundtrack and a overall fun experience that is second to none! If you haven't tried it out yet, do what you have to do to play it (well....keep it within the law ;-)Wednesday, October 7, 2009
Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack!
The Martian Woman had to be one of the coolest costumes I had ever seen, at the time, and it still holds up pretty well today. Oh, how I would kill to see someone cosplay as this. That's a true challenge right there, especially if they try to get her "walk" down.

Lucky there's a Family Guy.
The Mistress of UltraPrison

Third on the list is a lesser known character from Adult Swim's Superjail, the Mistress of UltraPrison. I admit, i'm not specifically a fan of SuperJail, but thought that she would be an awesome character to at least sketch out. That rough sketch turned into the rough drawing that you see right here. I did this months ago, around the same time the Eris and Lindsay drawings. Originally, for my sketchbook this year, i was going to have a least two pages of miscellaneous Cartoon Network characters in a model sheet type of drawing. That never panned out (due to my slowness), so half of the drawings are still sitting here in my computer just waiting to be colored.

Ms. Selina Kyle
Marvel Girl

So, while the old hand is healing up, i thought i should start coloring the numerous amount of drawings that i have laying around and scanned into my computer. First up is the uncanny Marvel Girl herself, Jean Grey. This has to be one of my all time favorite costumes in comics. I mean if you think about it, Jean Grey has had a few of the coolest costumes in comics, especially this one and her Phoenix/Dark Phoenix costume. It's too bad that she has died more times in comics than there are Police Academy movies. Hopefully, Marvel will bring her back into mainstream comics again in the near future.
On a side note, did anyone pick up the X-men Legacy Annual that came out this past week? I have to say that Rogue's new costume is a definite A+ in my book! Maybe i just have a thing for scarves. I will say that when my hand heals up, that it will most defintely have to be put into a drawing!

Siren and Sketchcards
Not many of you out there will probably remember her. She was a sidekick to the Riddler in one episode of the 1960's Batman show with Adam West. She was played by Joan Collins and she had the ability to hypnotize men with her "siren's song". Funny thing is that i absolutely had NO idea that it was Joan Collins until now, when i found reference pics of the character. Fun fact that i didn't know until recently as well: She was the ONLY Batman villain on the show that actually had natural super powers.
Yeah, i know that i've been doing sketch cards like crazy and not enough colored pieces as of late. I'm going to do my best to change that after Dragon*Con. I think that my artistic batteries need to be recharged a bit and that's just the place for that to happen. Another thing is that i'm trying to have a $#!@ load of sketch cards ready to sell at some conventions next year. My goal is to have about 100 done by next May. Not so hard, but coming up with 100 different characters to draw might be a bit tricky. I will say that with each card, it does seem to get a little bit easier. Maybe thats a sign that i'm getting better? Who knows!

Clowns, Nymphs and Gorillas...Oh My!

First on the menu is the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker! I've never actually drawn the Joker before, but have always wanted to. For my first time, i don't think it's too bad. He's a tricky devil to draw, that's for sure. I will say that he's probably THE best villain in comics ever. Hands down.

Next up is one of my favorite Batman villains, the lovely Poison Ivy. I based my drawing on Brian Bolland's version of the character, but added a little bit of my own twist to her. I tried to make her a bit more nymphish than how other artists have portrayed her in the past. She always seemed like she should look like a very playful, but sultry character on the outside, but on the inside, she is a devious, determined individual who always gets what she wants. I also based her face and physique a little bit off of Christina Hendricks from Mad Men, who i feel is one of THE most stunning women (and stunning redheads, for that matter) in Hollywood right now. In the future, i hope to do a fully colored Poison Ivy piece based completely on her likeness.
Last, but not least is Tracy from Filmation's Ghostbusters. Even though it was overshadowed by The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, it's still one of my favorites from the 80's. Yeah, the animation and story lines were typical Filmation, but i absolutely loved the character designs. Who doesn't love a giant ape in a hat and shorts that drives a supernatural jeep and busts ghosts? Classic, i say! Classic!

"It's over, Prime..."
Let's face it. Transformers the Movie is my all time favorite movie. Laugh all you want, but it's probably the movie that i have watched the most throughout my entire life. I must have seen it over 100 times (including tonight, as i JUST finished watching it). I was a huge Transformers fan when i was kid and that movie was like the pinnacle of everything for me. The fight scene between Optimus Prime and Megatron was one of the coolest things ever to witness as a kid. Yeah, it's just a cartoon, but to me, its something that was (and is) truly epic. Not only that, but it's the movie that really inspired me to want to start drawing comic and cartoon styled art. So basically, every drawing that you see on this blog is, in a way, a result of that movie (well, that and Ninja Turtles, but that's another story for another time....)
"Mother Brain will get you, little princess...ahahaha!"
Mother Brain from the fantastic Captain N: The Game Master cartoon. What a cartoon! I remember watching it every saturday morning when i was a kid and just being in awe. All of my favorite video game characters, coming together and going on crazy adventures. Watching it today, it still holds up pretty well and some of the designs on that show were just so unique and different. Castlevania! Megaman! Punch-Out! Hell, there was even an episode about Tetris and Paperboy! This show had it all! Ahhh, the memories.....

Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me...
Kim Possible has to be one of my all time favorite Disney animated series. It's right up there with Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Aladdin, Gummi Bears and Hercules. The big question is what is the hold up on having some season box sets hitting store shelves?!?! I know i'm not the only one out there asking for this, right?! :-)Big Chris on Beau Smith's Busted Knuckles!

The lost Adam Warlock
This particular card is of Adam Warlock. I will say one thing... it's really painful to look at my sketch cards now, because i absolutely had NO idea what the hell i was doing! It was my first time and i was really intimidated to be doing cards with such an awesome variety of artists who i have admired for years. Not only that, but didn't even know what tools to use, so it basically came down to just crappy pen and pencils. UGH! Thank God i have improved some since then and hopefully i'll get the chance to take a crack at some more actual sketch cards in the near future.I know there are at least 20 more cards that i didn't post pictures of floating around somewhere out there. Maybe some more will turn up one of these days...
(Special thanks to Paul for emailing me this)

Krondor Krew!
Krondor Krew is the worlds pre-eminent ninja hip-hop duo.
Since 2002,they have been perfecting their deadly art of lyrical ninjitsu, viciously slinging wicked ninja-based raps in every direction of South Florida, and winning over every audience they perform for. Shinobi and Masurao take their art form to high levels of visual and audio content. Each song is written with performance in mind, both emcees giving the immense amount of their energy to the stage show when performing. No audience has left a Krondor Krew performance unamazed.
Signed to EMPulse Records in June 2008, Krondor Krew have the tools, abilities, and ninja soldiers to take over any show, blast the system to full capacity, and leave the crowd cheering in excitement.

If there is an event like this in your area, i encourage artists everywhere to go to it. It's such an awesome experience and its a sure fire way to get you out of any drawing funk that you have bene in. It surely did for me (hence all of the sketch cards recently).

Sketchbook!
It's Rogue, Sugah!
Rogue, from the famous Jim Lee era of the X-Men. X-Men #1, which was drawn by Jim Lee, was the first mainstream comic that i ever picked up. It was the comic that got me totally into comics and it changed life. The dynamic characters and the amazing layouts by Lee inspired my style for years and got me into drawing the type of stuff that you see from me today!

Diana of Themyscira
After watching the Wonder Woman animated feature that came out a couple of weeks ago, i just HAD to do another drawing of Diana. The film was too phenomenal for words. Director Lauren Montgomery (who is one of the most amazing artists out there) and her team put together one of the greatest comic animated features ever. If you haven't checked it out, please go out and do so now!

Who watches the Silk Spectre?
Despite what a lot of people are saying, i actually thought the Watchmen movie was good. While i do have my gripes and nit picks about certain things, I fele that it is probably the best that we could possibly get when translating it to a 3 hour movie. I mean, look how detailed the book is! It's basically would be impossible to be able to adapt all of that and still manage to keep the average movie goers interest for an extended period of time.Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Be sure to come out to the FX International at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando on April 17th-19th! It will be my first con ever in the creators area! I'll be selling sketchbooks, prints and the last remaining proofs to my Marvel Masterpieces cards from last year (trust me, they look waaaay better than the actual cards i did). X-23!
This is actually the first drawing i've completed since turning 30 a few weeks ago. I've still "got it" in my old age. This is also one of the new pieces that i plan on using in my first sketchbook for FX International in April. The sketchbook will consist of a lot of my favorite pieces that i have done along with several new and unseen work that i have to show (or produce, in some cases. lol)
