Ruby Rocket T-Shirts!

The real life comic pin-up girl, Ruby Rocket posted this in her myspace blog:

Hey y’all! So, the shirt designs are pretty much cemented and I should be ordering them soon. If you’re interested in purchasing one, let me know ahead of time (and your size) so I can make sure to order enough! The RR logo on the front was done by the marvelous Big Chris and on the center, top of the back it will say www.rocketsagogo.com
They shouldn’t be more than $20 (hopefully).

So head on over to her myspace page at

http://www.myspace.com/niamhdoll

and tell her that you want one!

MEGACON!

Well, its my favorite time of year: Megacon! I was THIS close to having a table this year there, but plans fell through at the last minute. Ah well, i'll just aim for the OrlandoCon at the end of this summer. Megacon will still be a blast though! Hanging out with friends, walking around meeting new people and trying not to break my wallet in the process.

And how about that new logo here?! Pretty spiffy, right? lol

Trio

Here are some characters that I came up with a loooong time ago, back in high school. I'm not sure what to exactly do with them just yet. One of these days, I hope to actually put them in some sort of comic in the future, being that I have this huge backstory and plot already planned out in my head for them.

Saturn Girl

Saturn Girl from the Legion of Superheroes. I actually drew this piece the same day i did that Power Girl pic about 4 months ago, but just never got around to coloring it until now. Also, it amazes me as to how many people don't know who Saturn Girl is! (well, actually, it doesn't because i'm not that much of a Legion fan either and don't know too much about them outside of the show and their appearances in the DC animated universe) You have to admit that Saturn Girl looks cool though, right? Again, why do I draw so many DC characters?!?! Where is the love for Marvel?!?! lol

The Star Spangled Kid!

Sorry for the huge watermark! This was a commission piece i did for a fellow deviantartist. I've always wanted to draw Stargirl, but never really had the motivation to do it until now. One thing i have noticed with my work is that i tend to draw more DC comics characters than Marvel. Funny thing is that i read more Marvel books than DC. I need to start showing the Marvel characters more love. lol

Samus Aran

This drawing had been sitting in my computer for months, just waiting to be colored! I wanted to try something different with this one by adding a chrome effect to her suit. Hey, i think it looks alright for a first try, right?!

Starfire

Starfire from the Teen Titans Animated series. I swear, this drawing has been sitting around in my computer for months! It was about time that actually colored it and i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I really want to do a pic of Raven and Terra next, but who knows when that is going to happen.

Caitlin

Caitlin Fairchild from Gen 13. I was trying to give her a bigger frame to push the point that she was extremely athletic and powerful, thanks to her powers. . Most artists that i've seen always draw her tiny and lanky. See, to me, if shes able to throw cars with ease, she has to have at least a little bit of mass behind her. I was borrowing the idea from a Frank Cho sketch of Quicksilver, in which he gave Pietro huge thighs, saying "Well, he's a runner, so naturally he should have powerful legs". Also, Adam Hughes' version of Fairchild was always thick and always struck my eye as how the character should be perceived. Either that, or i just wanted to draw her with a big toosh. You be the judge ;-)

The White Violin

This was a character rough sketch i did of Vanya, The White Violin from Gerard Way & Gabriel Ba's The Umbrella Academy, which is being published by Dark Horse Comic. I was just messing around and i'm not to thrilled as to how it came out, but at least it's giving me a feel as to how to draw the character.
Plus, if you haven't checked out the book, DO IT! It's one of the best books i've read all year!

Supergirl

Another one in my DC Heroines series. I'm thinking of doing Zatanna, Wonder Woman, Wonder Girl, or Starfire next. Any suggestions? (lol not that anyone's reading this thing though)

I dont know..for some strange reason i think she came out looking like Hilary Duff a little bit. Maybe its just me though.

BCG VOL.1!

I thought it might be cool to do kind of a fake magazine cover type of thing. If i ever do decide to come out with a sketchbook of some sort, i'm thinking about having something like this as a cover. Maybe even make a series of them....who knows!

She's Alive!

Lisa from Weird Science! Basically every boy's fantasy in the 1980's.

DC!

A couple of DC Superheroines to make the day go by a little bit faster...Mary Marvel and Big Barda! I tell you what....i'm really digging this whole Mary Marvel being a villain thing. That girl is vicious!

Again, why all the women?!!?

Most of the stuff that I draw is usually pin up type characters and predominately female. Why all the women? Well, in the past, when I first created a page on Myspace, I tried drawing classic comic type stuff. You know what i'm talking about...the big superhero types and stuff like that. The thing is that I was never recognized for any of it. No one really noticed it. However, as soon as I put up a pin up drawing, everyone started to take notice. So i just went with the flow of things and stuck to what was "getting my name out there". I guess the power of a female can never be underestimated….

Learning from the best...

The main reason why I created this blog is to basically show a "growth chart" of my work. While, as of right now, I am nowhere the level I need to be to do this for an actual living, I feel that in time, I’ll be able to learn new techniques from the many great artists on here to help my work grow. There are so many amazing talents here that you can’t help but take some form of inspiration in. Talents like Sean Galloway, Alberto Ruiz, Matthew Humphreys, Tracy M. Lee, Stephen Silver, Khary Randolph, Josh Howard….the list just goes on and on. Basically, all of my heroes and artistic idols are here. Plus, there are so many amazing artists that I have yet to discover and learn from.

This blog also gives me a better place to showcase some of my work and maybe get some insight as to what I need to do to improve it. Ha, maybe I’ll even learn how to use one of those fancy Wacom tablets that everyone seems to be talking about and using so much.

And with that said, away we go…..

Well, i see that everyone else has one of these things, so why not me? lol I guess i should start posting some stuff on here soon ;-)
